Caitlin & Devon

Hi there, I'm

caitlin

lead photographer, the introvert in charge of all things communication, detail shot enthusiast, and lover of your timeless love story

When I don't have a camera in hand, you can find me at chick-fil-a ordering an 8-count nugget meal with a med. waffle fry and a large sweet tea, at target buying way too many throw pillows (according to Devon... but really you can never have too many), or organizing my Kitchen with all the containers I can get my hands on.

Second Shooter, extrovert with all the jokes to make your groom laugh, veil fluffer, candid extraordinaire, and all about having a fun time

when I'm not having a blast with you at your wedding, you'll find me with a glass of whiskey (current favorite: wild turkey rare breed... but i'm always trying new ones), talking about how I grew up in Oregon and five other states, watching the Baltimore ravens play football, or planning my next hike (dm me your favorites).

our love story

01. how we met

Devon and I met in March 2020, a week before lockdowns, and it was truly something neither of us saw coming.

My best friend and college roommate (Ashelyn) went to the same church as devon. Seeing that we were both single, she tried to set us up, but i said no... twice!

Finally, while eating chick-fil-a in the target parking lot in between my court internship and a photographer's networking event, Ashelyn brought up devon again. Finally, i reluctantly agreed to have her give him my number for a potential date... did i mention he's basically a lumberjack and clearly not my type?

I accidentally ghosted him the very next day... and it gets crazier because the day after that he shows up to my dorm completely unannounced (well, he was there to see my roommate... but it was completely unannounced to me).

Neither of us saw potential for a relationship after that first night, but after a game night a few days later, we've been inseparable ever since.

02. our proposal

Devon officially proposed to me in January 2021 in our favorite city, Richmond, Va!

Devon's original plan was to propose to me on the steps of the Virginia Capitol Building, but due to recent inauguration events, the Capitol building was closed.

We quickly switched to a backup location, a beautiful mansion on Monument Avenue that matched our outfit color scheme perfectly!

It was raining , Devon opened the ring box upside down, and a random passerby told me not to say yes unless the house we were at came with the proposal (it was technically on the market). Our amazing photographer friend, Rachael, was there to capture the whole thing, and it was perfect, despite the house not coming with the ring.

Fun Fact: I hate surprises and helped plan my own proposal! Any other type-A people out there?!

03. Our Engagement

Devon and I are now in the very same process As You, planning our dream wedding!

The type-A, perfectionist in me is loving all of the little tasks that come with wedding planning! I often find myself coming up with designs and concepts for our seating charts, table-scapes, etc. for fun in my free-Time. What can I say, as a photographer, I love the graphic design aspect of my business!

Devon, though he works in the wedding industry, has found himself saying, "yes dear, whatever you want," a lot during this planning process. It's not that he doesn't have opinions when it comes to wedding planning, but his tastes are very similar to mine, and he knows I have a specific vision in mind for our day.

Right now, we're in the save the date process, thumbing through hundreds of images from our amazing photographer and narrowing down who's on our guest list. The later is not an easy task when you're like Devon and have family all across the country and friends from all 6 states you've lived in.

04. Our wedding

Though our wedding hasn't come and gone yet (It'll be here before we know it), we are so excited for our own special day!

Devon and I are getting married in May 2023 at emory & Henry College in Emory, VA, which is my alma Mater.

Our reception will take place at the bristol Train Station in Bristol, VA.

Our wedding is garden inspired with color tones of dusty blue, dusty rose, and gold accents.

One thing we're really excited about is Devon's dad will be performing our ceremony! He went to Clear Creek Baptist Bible College when Devon was about to enter elementary school and currently works at a church in Bristol. It will be so special to have him standing with us, performing our ceremony.

Letters will play a huge role in our wedding as well. Devon and I will be reading letters during our first look, and we will be sealing letters to be read on our first anniversary for our unity ceremony.

05. Working together

One question we get asked a lot is, "How do you and Devon work together?"

Honestly, it can be frustrating at times, and we could both learn to communicate better with each other as we grow together.

But, we wouldn't trade this for the world!

It is amazing to be able to spend every day with each other, meeting new friends, helping people, preserving memories, and traveling the world.

On wedding days, we're a dream team!
I started my first photography business years before I ever met Devon, but he quickly learned everything I knew by watching me photograph sessions and weddings, as well as some one-on-one coaching.

Now, Devon and I are an extension of each other on wedding days! He knows exactly how I like to work, and I know what he's strongest at as my second.
We often joke that we can read each others' minds... except for his jokes, I am never funny enough to come up with my own!

OUR MISSION...

preserving  your  legacy

I grew up with a camera in hand, more so than Devon, who still had a small passion for photography at a young age. I was the kid at the family reunion who begged to use anyone's point and shoot camera to take candids and offered to stay behind to get the group shot. After joining my high school's journalism team, my parents gifted me my own DSLR my senior year of high school. I never intended to make that my full-time career (though my third-grade journal might say otherwise), but what started as a hobby I carried with me through college (where i was a pre-law student, not a photography major), quickly grew into over 100 weddings of experience and a six-figure business that I'm sometimes still amazed exists.

Now that Devon and I are engaged, we love connecting with our couples who are experiencing the joys of that season of life. We feel honored to be able to share that experience with them in more ways than just photography. But we also can't think about our own wedding without the legacy of our wedding story that will one day be passed on to our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

We love thinking about how our own wedding album will adorn our coffee table, how we'll pull our future children onto our laps and tell them the story of us and our wedding day, seeing their little fingers thumb through the pages, oohing and aahing over all the details. We're excited that we get to preserve those who won't be with us someday, like Devon's Great-Grandmother (Mom Mom) who passed away in may 2022, 10 days shy of her 100th birthday.

This is why we do what we do.
These memories are irreplaceable, and we can't wait to help you preserve your legacy.
